Playa Bonita Panorama - Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic

Playa Bonita Panorama - Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic

Playa Bonita = Jolie Plage in French (la photo parle d'elle meme) = Beautiful beach in English (picture speak for itself).

Las Terrenas is a town in the Samana province of the Dominican Republic.
Samana was a famous slave trade port for the British in the early 17th century. Today, the people of these provinces are a mix of Taino, Spanish and African descent.
Las Terrenas is a new hotspot for foreigners but also people from the Capital. Since the new highway between Santo Domingo and Samana is done, people from SD come here every week. It takes 2 hours from the center Las Terrenas to the center Santo Domingo. Also, the new airport El Catey is open for international flights, mainly used for connections in Europe and Canada.

I spent there 2 days with senorita Valdez on my last trip to DR. Rainy season they say :)

Bayahibe Lighthouse

Bayahibe Lighthouse

First time using a DSLR. On vacation in the Dominican Republic.
This photo has been having such good reviews it deserves a better description.
Summer of 2010, I went on vacation to the Dominican Republic. Bought my first SLR, the nikon entry level D3000, and started reading my first photography books. My knowledge of photography was close to zero, and increased just a tinny bit during the 10 hour flight thanks to the book "understanding exposure" (great book by the way). The very last day of vacation I said to my wife that I read the best light was at dusk or dawn. So while she was getting ready to go out for dinner I grabbed the camera and went to the beach to shoot my first sunset ever. This lighthouse was on the resort and after 5 minutes of taking this photo it started pouring down, and I went back to the room really upset. Only afterwards I looked at the photos and saw that it wasn't bad and the light trough the clouds looked kinda nice. After almost a year and a lot of photography books read, a new camera and more experience with post processing I went back to process this photo (since there was almost none done before) and the result is what you see here.I just want to say that it was more luck than knowledge that helped me get this photo. Thank you for all your good comments on my DSLR debut.
